Burn For Me Review

Hello fellow book lovers!

We’ve been quite absent for the past little while, but I promise you will see more reviews coming soon!

This review is for Ilona Andrews‘ Burn For Me, the first novel in her new series that came out last fall. I have been a fan of Ilona Andrews for a long time, and I was very excited for her new series to debut. Excerpt from her website:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand-new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire . . .

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

My excitement was not for nothing.

I loved Burn For Me. It had the same classic Andrews snark, but presented with entirely different characters in a refreshing way. The worldbuilding was fantastic, exactly what I’ve come to expect from Andrews, but all new and shiny. She has a certain way of blending the modern world with magic in ways that I never could have imagined, and have never seen before. The characters were all well-developed and whole, with each one holding endearing qualities. In short, I had a great time with this book. I did find the cover hilarious, but I often find her covers hilarious. I would talk about the impracticality of Nevada’s shirt for what she’s doing, but at least she’s wearing one, unlike Mad Rogan 😉

I never like to spoil books for people, so I’ll try to refrain from talking about Mad Rogan too much. Of course, he’s also a bit indescribable…

The second book in the Hidden Legacy series, White Hot, is coming out late October 2015, so read the first one so you can be ready for the next.

Until next time, happy reading!
